What is an associate? Basically my contracted employee who can match my work, shooting style, and client experience. If I’m booked and a client still wants to work with me or if an emergency comes up I can offer Madelyn if she’s available to shoot under my brand. I still do all the editing, communication, engagement session if needed and planning. Madelyn has been working with me longest of anyone and has exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t be prouder to have her on my team!

A little bit about Madelyn:

I grew up in the Madison, WI area and moved to Duluth for college. I LOVE to travel and I have a goal of visiting all 50 states by the time I am 30 years old. I am a very proud dog mom to my one year old Portuguese Water Dog. I am super close with my family and my favorite time of the year is Christmas when I get to visit all of my family AND celebrate my birthday two days before Christmas! Netflix shows are my weakness. My favorite places to shoot are definitely by water or in long, grassy fields. I am a big dreamer and sometimes that gets me in trouble because I try to juggle too much haha. But I LOVE what I do so, so much. This job allows me to meet the best people ever, like Janine!!

What’s your background in weddings?

I have been a wedding coordinator in the Duluth, MN area for three years now and I started my photography journey in January 2022. During the beginning of 2022, I interned with Janine which provided me so much experience in photographing weddings and couples!

What’s your favorite part of a wedding day?

My favorite part of a wedding day is immediately after the ceremony when all of the nerves go away and everyone lets loose!! It is so fun to see the couple and bridal party really open up and celebrate after they tie the knot!

What have you learned from your mentorship this year?

SOOOO MUCH!!! I think I could write a whole essay. I have learned everything from manual camera and flash settings in different lighting scenarios to providing the best client experience possible.

A few of the key things I learned were:

– How to comfortably pose and prompt clients during sessions and weddings

– Which lighting scenarios are best to use a flash and which settings work the best with different lighting

– Client workflow and what to include in my contracts

– Managing family and the bridal party on a wedding day

– How to communicate and build relationships with clients both professionally and personally

Madelyn has been such a rock in my business this last year and has truly even helped me elevate my clients’ experiences when working along side me. The most helpful, thoughtful and caring individual who is there to capture your most memorable day to look back on for years to come. Check out her work on Instagram.
